Sunday summary ... On Thursday!

Hey ladies

I haven't done a post in a few days so thought I'd do a Sunday summary today!

I've had a busy old week, I was supposed to attend the Sheffield bloggers meet up last weekend but at last minute it got canceled which I was really disappointed with but it couldn't be helped.

It did mean I could come to London for 3 days with Gemma (hopefully the links will work I'm on my phone) we got lots of things planned so hopefully I will be able to upload some pics on my Facebook page!

So far last night we went for dinner & in the above picture is our cocktails, six for the two of us! don't judge!

I have gotten a job not doing what I want to do, but it's a stop gap until something better comes along so it gets me out of the house & interacting with
actual human beings instead of the cyber ones I'm used to.

That's pretty much been my world recently, i've got so many videos to upload to YouTube so hopefully I can do that on Saturday when I'm home. Oh & I LOVE ZOE!

Hope you're all well, let me know what you're up to!

NOTD: OPI D.C. Cherry Blossom

Hey Ladies,

Another NOTD for you, I was supposed to be going to this weekends Sheffield meet up but at last minute it all got cancelled so I hope everyone who went had a good time, I'd already painted my nails for night out so here they are.

I had planned on wearing a bright blue dress so thought a bright pink lip & nail would be a great contrast so went for this shade (after a similar Shellac polish failed to turn up!)

It just a really simple bright blue toned bubblegum pink, two coats was all I needed & a bit of the Orly VIP pink glitter on my ring finger for some bling!! Love it! Perfect summer shade as well!

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend, today has been most spent asleep here at Nicolavc86 towers as i'm a bit ill!! But I've been planning a trip to the capitol from Wednesday to Friday so hopefully will be better for then!!

Would You Go Makeup Less?

Hey Ladies,

Overnight bags are a pain to lump about on public transport are they not? We all have our overnight kits & mine is rather heavy & I lug it about on public transport to get to & from my destination, it contains everything I could possibly need for a night away & I dread the thought of being without something so I overpack & being the dedicated blogger I am I tend to take my Macbook with me so I can blog or reply to YouTube comments. My bag is therefore very heavy, don't you just wish you could travel with only your handbag containing your face wash & the next days clothing within it & do away with the overnight bag. My question is would you go without makeup the next day if you were travelling home on public transport?

My basic kit minus a laptop & handbag.
Well today I did just that, not as a social experiment or to see if I actually could go without makeup I was just too lazy to apply my makeup at 8am!

And do you know what, I never thought it would be so difficult to feel confident without that layer of makeup. How is it that all our confidence is reliant in that little bag of tricks we cart around with us? I think of myself as a confident person in life I don't really care too much what others think of me yet I found myself convinced that people were staring at my makeup-less face & talking to the person next to them pointing out all my flaws & when walking past two young (20+) males made my stomach turn. Now I'm no Kate Moss so I don't expect wolf whistles when I walk past people but when I have that layer of magic on my face I can walk past with my head held confidently & men notice that, I'm ashamed to admit I walked past with most of my hair covering my face! I even felt judged for looking like crap by the woman getting me my sausage McMuffin. Self confidence is something that apparently is easily bought with a simple trip to Boots (other self confidence shops are available) & it makes me feel so shallow to know that at 24 years old I'd rather go without food on a day out than go without makeup on my face. Don't judge me.

So what is it that stops us from leaving the house without makeup? I really believe it's harder to be a woman than a man most of the time, men can get up 10 minutes before they have to leave the house & just throw on some clothes use the bathroom then go, women get up an hour (?? for me 30 mins) before they have to leave the house, we have to prepare the skin, apply makeup, get dressed & do our hair. (i'm being very general here obviously there are exceptions)

Why is this the case? I really believe women are expected to look a certain way in this society, to look as good as they possibly can by having 'perfect' skin, hair, makeup, nails & body & if they don't reach their 'potential' get judged by other people ie women. I'm sure most of us can admit to saying something bitchy about another woman's appearance, it's a self assurance thing that you have to look better than a person who doesn't try, your friend agrees with the bitchy comment & life goes on. Why is it not acceptable at times to look like a tramp & not feel judged for doing so??

I'd love all your opinions on this, do you go out in full public view makeup less? & what do you think it is that makes it pretty unacceptable to dare leave the house looking less than polished?

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Dupe Courtesy of Bourjois

Hey Ladies,

Recently I have been loving lighter foundations, having been addicted to my Estee Lauder Double Wear since September it's been rather lovely to be able to give my skin a break & room to breathe.

The two lighter formulas I have been trying are at complete opposite ends of the price scale but quite similar in the way they look on your skin. I raved about the Chanel Vitalumier Aqua a few weeks ago & will continue to do that til i'm blue in the face however I am well aware that not everyone wants to spend £32 on a foundation so I thought I'd make a comparison with a relatively cheap one to give you an alternative!!

Price & Design - You get 30mls in both foundations and obviously the Bourjois kicks the Chanel's arse as its £10 compared to the £32 for the Chanel. The Chanel bottle is clearly different from their usual ones but I actually really like it and they're are both plastic bottles so don't weigh a tonne in your makup bag so good for travelling. The healthy mix has a pump which is always appreciated & the Chanel has a nozzle (? Pointy squeeze out thing) so will still be hygienic!

Formulation - They really can't be compared in terms of formulation as they are so different, the Chanel is water based so needs a good shake before use as it separates when it's been shaken it's much thicker than you imagine and kind of melts into the skin where as the Bourjois is a very creamy formulation and easily blendable into the skin. The biggest difference here was how much of the Bourjois I used in comparison to the Chanel, I seriously used loads & so I'm thinking the Chanel will last longer. It has to be noted that the Chanel has an SPF of 15 whereas the Bourjois doesn't have any to my knowledge or that I can see on the bottle or their website.

Coverage - This is where they really compare they both start out a light medium & then both buildable to a medium coverage. Neither of them give a Matt or Luminous finish but both leave your skin looking polished not too shiny not too flat.

On The Skin - Again this is comparable between the two, they do look very similar in texture and the way they look on the skin, the way the feel on the skin is quite different however, the Chanel feels like you've got nothing on your face whereas the Bourjois you feel like you have something on there although nothing close to other foundations i've tried so still pretty light.

Smell - Always an important factor for me, they both have smells to them which I dislike, I don't necessarily not like the smell (the opposite in fact for the Chanel it smells so nice) but I hate when they add perfume to foundations as I always think they'll give me spots and it's such an unnecessary ingredient really. They're both equal offenders in this field, I personally prefer the smell of the Chanel but that's just me.

Lasting Power - The Bourjois claims 'up to 16 hours wear' which is a pile of errrm .... rubbish, unless you have skin like the Sahara I doubt it will last anything more than about 10 hours which is still great just don't claim things that aren't true to sell a product. I don't think the Chanel claims any lasting power with this foundation but it's very similar so about 10 hours both with a setting powder.

Skin Type - I personally wouldn't recommend either for really oily skin as there are great foundations out their from both companies designed to control oil, these are great for slightly oily, normal & dry skin but I'd ask for a sample of the Chanel before purchasing if you've got really dry skin just because Chanel sell Vitalumiere which would probably be more suitable for really dry skin.

So overall they do have differences but if you applied one half of your face with the Chanel & the other with the Borjois I think people would find it difficult to tell you had two different foundations on as they do look very similar on the skin they just feel slightly different but for the difference of £22 most people wont mind.

I hope that's an easy accessible cheaper alternative for people because lets face it how many people would want to spend £22 more just to feel like you're wearing nothing instead of a little bit of something. (would you judge me if I said me! I like the smell ok?)

Thanks for reading & hope you're all having a brilliant week, remember to enter my No7 Giveaway & my Facebook Essie Polish Giveaway!

NOTD: China Glaze Black Diamond

Hey Ladies,

After a disastrous black tipped experiment with yesterdays NOTD I had to remove the Cafe Au Lait & so I replaced it with another new shade, China Glaze Black Diamond.

It is a black polish with a silver micro shimmer, in some lights it actually looks blue but mostly a metallic black. I absolutely love it & have to say its a dead ringer for Chanel Black Pearl but very much cheaper!!

For the sheek goth in you!! :)

Hope you're having a lovely sunbathed day like me!!

Worst Product of The Week!

Hey Ladies,

I attempt to keep the negativity away from my blog, if I don't like something I tend not to bother featuring it because there's so many great products out there i'd prefer to talk to you about. However occasionally you come across things which you hope will at least work but really really don't, this is one.

Clean & Clear Quick Clear Spot Treatment Gel - around £5.00 for 15ml

This claims to 'Reduce spots in 4 hours, suitable for use under & over makeup whenever needed'

Erm what can I say apart from No! This spot GEL sets on your face & as soon as you touch where you placed it on your skin it rubs off like one of those peel off masks, so you can't use it under makeup & you can see it over makeup & it doesn't last for 4 hours on the skin for it to work, unless you never touch your skin & never wear makeup. Oh & you use loads of the stuff my tube feels half empty & I've had it 2 days!!

Avoid!! Good job it was only a fiver! Nicola's lesson of the week: listen to what people recommend on Twitter & stop making your own decisions in Boots!

NOTD: Sally Hansen Cafe Au Lait

Hey Ladies,

My NOTD today comes curtosy of Sally Hansen, it's my first Sally Hansen polish ever and it's officially love.

It is the exact colour I've been looking for forever, a true nude that is a perfect French manicure shade for me, I'm not a fan of the overly pink French manicure so this is the 'one' I can't wait to pair it with a black tip (which I will experiment with later). It is a peachy flesh toned shade with the teeniest micro shimmer which is barely noticeable I cannot describe how much I love it.

The only problem is you seriously cannot find it anywhere in this country practically, on ebay I couldn't find a seller to get it posted to the UK so I made an emotional appeal on Twitter & Louise came to my rescue & so kindly did some shopping for me & sent it over!

I now have a problem because I've seen a couple of shades from this line which I need, Louise has been put on red alert to run to the shop when I need my next fix!!

Product of The Week!

Hey Ladies,

This weeks product of the week has to be ...

Illamasqua Cream Pigments

Emerge, Hollow
Hollow, Emerge
Multi-Purpose products I rarely believe in, I think they're all great at one task but just about pass in another, these definitely are multi tasking products. As cheek colours/contour colours they're excellent, I used the peach shade in my latest video on my cheeks & they kind of add some coverage as well as colour to the cheek or contour area & a matte water resistant formula so if you don't like the finish of cream blushers these may be for you. As lip shades they may not be to everyone's taste shade wise but they certainly are pigmented & spreadable enough for the lips I just advise using some lip balm with them as they are matte & not flattering on a dry lip. Finally as eye colours they are great, I have used the hollow shade as an eye base for a couple of days & can confirm they were totally crease proof for a good 10 hours on me & made eye colours look more vibrant!

A truly multi purpose product and one I highly recommend and urge Illamasqua to increase their shade range because a hot pink & coral would go down a storm in these waters I can assure you.

Thanks for reading & let me know some proper multi purpose products out there because most fail after one purpose for me!!

Urban Decay Primer Potion FINALLY Has New Packaging!

Hey Ladies,

The day has finally come where Urban Decay have redesigned the Primer Potion packaging so we can squeeze every little bit of the goodness from the tube instead of losing a finger chopping the top of to scoop the remains out.

I quite like the new packaging, It squeezes out of the top & doesn't come with an applicator which is great. I've not heard of a release date yet but get your savvy eye open for when they'll be selling the old packaging cheaply.

Can we all say a collective 'thank you Urban Decay for seeing sense & listening to the people who buy your products'

Two posts in one day, I am spoiling you!! Hope you're all having a lovely day mines been full of lovely packages :) which you will no doubt  see in a video!

I personally would like Gleam eyeshadow, studio tech foundation, a new eyebrow pencil & a couple of other boring essentials, but very much resisting as I don't need them! (can you tell I watched the new Pixwoo video today)

The Code - GAGA (until the 25th)

And also the Lady Gaga Viva Glam 2 is back in stock!

Happy shopping! & remember to enter my No7 Giveaway whilst you're here!

NOTD: Illamasqua Stagnate

Hey Ladies,

I've mentioned the new Illamasqua Toxic Nature collection before & loved the cream pigments they sent me but there was another goody I got sent from the collection & it's a diamond.

Illamasqua - Stagnate

If I could pick my favourite shade of nail polish it definitely has to be these taupish/brown/purple/grey shades, they are just so interesting as they look so different in different lights and I never get bored of them, I probably have what would be seen as an unhealthy amount of these shades but I wear the colour so often they'll all get used.

The application was easy, took 2 coats & Illamasqua are always top quality nail polishes with an amazingly unique colour range, I buy so many of them.

This has definitely gone into my top 5 taupe polishes, I am going to be doing a comparison & dupe post on these shade for certain. There's a few shades from this collection i'm craving for.

Hope you've all had a lovely weekend, I spent my entire day yesterday swearing at my television & encouraging the ripping off of heads in the England rugby game they were dreadful & it definitely brought out my violent side! Whereas today has been completely chilled, I've done my nails (as you've just seen) & watched Finding Nemo & that's about it, God where did the day go?? Remember to 'Like' my Facebook page & enter my No7 give away by the way!!

How I Take Care of My Curly Hair

Hey Ladies,

As most of you will know I had a perm at the beginning of January so thought i'd do a post on how I take care of it, I've done a video on my hair routine but these are the products which makes maintaining my hair as easy as it was straight!

Me & my curly hair

I focus my hair care in two parts.

Part 1 - Treat

Deep conditioners are key, I normally don't condition my hair when I shampoo it so I rely on a weekly deep conditioning treatment some of my favourite treatments are here.

Redken Extreme CAT Treatment - rrp £14.95 or here £11.96

This is quite a strange treatment as its just a liquid spray, most treatments we associate with thick creamy formulas but this is supposed to repair the damage and strengthen the hair leaving it smooth & protected, I love Redken products & this is no exception, the Extreme range is for really damaged hair & it works wonders (the Anti-Spap is amazing I just don't have a bottle right now) If you use this a couple of times a week it really helps your hair feel healthier.

Sexy Hair Reinvent Top Coat - rrp £12.99

This is similar to the new Pantene Colour Seal so you apply it from root to tip and it's supposed to 'reinvent' your hair, it makes the colour of your hair more vibrant and it improves the condition of your hair as well making it soft & smooth. The Pantene one is easier to get hold of but ml for ml probably more expensive as you get loads in the sexy hair product but they do the same job I just couldn't find my tube of Colour Seal.

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle - rrp £4.69

I think everyone & their mother, brother & sister have heard/used this product, I think i've probably been using it about 10 years now, it does exactly what you want from a deep conditioner makes your hair more manageable and soft. I don't think I like the smell any more as it is a little over powering.

Paul Mitchell Super Charged Moisturiser - rrp £12.65 or here £10.12

This is amazing! Doesn't have the strong smell of the Aussie & works even better if you're willing to spend a little extra (my tube is a small size the price above is for 200mls so great value) what's great about this is that it rinses out much more easily than the Aussie so saves water (if you're looking for a justification) I really need some more of this because it's probably my favourite treatment of the lot.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Night Serum - rrp £7.39

This is a little different from the other treatments because you apply it to dry hair before you go to bed & wash it out in the morning, I have to say this is difficult for me as I wash my hair at night but I have been known to use this as a leave in conditioner & it works fine but I have to admit it does shine when you use it correctly! When you wash your hair it makes it feel already conditioned so it is great when you don't have time in the morning to rinse out conditioner!

Part 2 - Tame

Redken Body Full Volume Amplifier - rrp £14.95 or here £11.96

Just spray into damp hair & when you blow dry it you get instant volume, I concentrate it at my roots & blow dry them only so my ends don't go frizzy & it gives amazing lift without any trouble.

Paul Mitchell Kids Taming Spray - rrp £4.95 or here £4.57

I don't use this everyday but do when i've washed my hair & have a very stubborn knot that won't budge, this makes light work of it.

Paul Mitchell Hair Sculpting Lotion - rrp £11.50 or here £9.20

Similar effects to the Redken but in a lotion form so you can overdo it at times & end up with dodgy roots but when done right it's amazing how bouncy it makes your hair & of course volumised perfect for nights out as it lasts for ever in your hair & I've noticed my hair doesn't look greasy the next day so great when you don't have time to wash your hair!

Toni & Guy Twist It Curl Balm - rrp £6.63

This adds definition to your curls & upps the volume without any heaviness and doesn't look like you have anything in your hair. It's a great product but I just wish it smelt nicer! (I really dislike the smell of their products)

Batiste Dry Shampoo in light - rrp £2.99

I didn't think you could improve on a brilliant product but Batiste has managed by bringing out this blonde version, it is perfect for my hair, even though I'm blonde I find if you're not careful with the white ones you can look like you have grey hair so this is just effortless & it's quite entertaining seeing your shower water yellow from it!

So that's how I look after my curly hair, if you've got any product recommendations I'd love to hear them! if you made it through that super long post ... well done!!

BTW i've included all the links for your benefit & attempted to stick to only two websites for ease!!

Nicolavc86 on Facebook!

Hey Ladies,

Recently i've noticed that i've been having a few friend requests on my personal Facebook page, basically about 5 seconds after people subscribe to me on YouTube I have a similar name add me on Facebook which freaks me out a little so I've created a Nicolavc86 Facebook page which means I can interact with all my readers none stop because lets face it Blogger's crap for answering questions.

Thought a random pic of my dog spuddy aka fatty would make you smile!

So please 'like' me so i feel loved, you'll get to know me more & hear about my day & bombard me with your questions because lets face it it'll be a little embarrassing if no one talks to me!! I'll let you know when a YouTube video is up or blog post is published & you can request vids & stuff, it'll be spectacular! ... Hopefully if my bloody profile picture will ever upload! There's a new 'like' box on the left hand side of my blog as well.

Plus there may be a giveaway going on very soon & to be cruel i'll just have it as a Facebook page one! you can still enter my No7 Giveaway here by the way!

So I hope you don't mind me doing this but I don't particularly want my drunken nights out known by my subscribers although I may post a selected few on my Nicolavc86 Facebook page!

FOTD & OOTD: Job Interview

Hey Ladies,

Because I've been heading to a few job interviews lately I thought I'd share what kind of look I go for when attending them, I think be smart but not too overly smart that it clashes against the personality you will show in the interview, i.e. have a soft & lovely personality in the interview whilst dressing like a high power bitch, it sends the wrong signal. I go for smart whilst being young & fashionable.

Top - New look
Skirt - Topshop

So as you can see really natural makeup, nothing that stands out just good skin & bright eyes and the outfit is just a body con skirt with super opaque tights (2 pairs) & a floaty chiffon top, it's smart but very girly & young so fits with my personality & not being someone whom I'm not, i.e. A high powered bitch (just erase the high powered & that's what I am!) As for hair & nails keep them polished & natural as possible nothing that stands out that you've taken 4 hours to get ready as in the real world no one has that amount of time to get ready for work. It's not a competition about who dresses the best it's who's best for the job so let your personality & achievements speak for themselves.

So I thought that this would give someone some tips when going for interviews, rarely do offices require you to wear formal suits these days so there's no point turning up to an interview in one, just look like you've made an effort & that should be enough!

Thanks for reading & hope you're all having a lovely week!

Product of The Week!

Hey Ladies,

It's that time of the week again for me to profess my love of a beauty related item & this week it is ...

Gelish Sweet Chocolate

Soak off Gel Polish aka Shellac, Gelish, Gelac etc

If you struggle with nail polish chipping & don't have the time to paint them every other day these systems could be just what you're looking for or if your nails are really weak & you want to get them strong this is a great way to grow out the damage from your nails without them constantly peeling & breaking.

I think you will have all heard of the systems by now & I think they are amazing, because i've bought the kit myself I can change the colour once a week so I don't get sick of the colour but you can paint over the colour & just use an acetone free polish remover if you get sick of the shade & with the strength of the gel underneath they will be less inclined to chip.

Since having the system on my nails i've had zero breakages & my nails are paper thin under the gel! I am completely sold! it costs around £20 - £25 at a salon & every 2-3 weeks it is totally worth it. I just beg you to remove them properly otherwise you'll think they damage your nails which they don't if you soak them off correctly!

Hope you're all having a good week, mine has been full of smiles so far which i'm very happy about & you'll hear more about soon.

Sunday Summary .... Technically Monday!

Hey Ladies,

I don't think i've done a post like this in a while so thought i'd update you on my activities (or lack thereof)

My boyfriend will laugh at me for this pic, I told him I wasn't taking a pic of it for my blog!

Getting Fitter - Since the sun has finally appeared out of the winter clouds I am on a little bit of a mission to get a bit fitter, I'm not aiming to lose loads of weight just walk more & join a Zumba class & stop being so bloody lazy as I currently am. I realised that I don't own a pair of trainers but I have bought some stuff to wear in my Zumba class I just need to get some trainers I kind of want the Reebok Easytone trainers they look so much nicer than other toning trainers, if anyone has tried them let me know if they're good!

Chocolate Cake - Yes it may be somewhat of a contradiction to the previous focus, but what's the point of working out if you can't have some chocolate cake afterwards as a reward. Well tonight I was fancying some cake & somewhere in the back of my memory of this post from Oxford Jasmine & gave it a go! Seriously it is miracle cake, it takes 5 minutes to prepare & cook in the microwave & if you're in a state & craving cake its perfect because most of the ingredients I always have in my house! I bow down to the woman!!

Summer - I have seen the sun & in my head it is now summer officially, I've bought maxi dresses & a big sun hat, obviously we're in the 2nd week of March so I know it isn't summer but I don't care, hopefully I can plan a trip to Paris in the summer & again in my head I'm already there!

High Street Makeup - I'm going to film a video this week about my mission to find some good high street makeup & I have to say it's made me excited about makeup again because I've genuinely found some great products that I have been reaching for everyday so watch out for my video. I'm so disappointed I can't get hold of the No7 Spring collection lipsticks I tried them out & loved them & been to a few Boots stores & can't find them! :( Remember to enter my giveaway.

So that's been my week i'm currently trying to upload a video to YouTube but my internet is being such a pain! Hope you've all had a lovely weekend, mine has been great I got to spend time with my boyfriend & wonderful friend Jade. I hope we're all counting our blessings after the awful goings on in Japan on Friday & over the weekend I know I certainly am, we can all complain about the weather in the UK but we are so lucky to be living in such a safe place where natural disasters are very infrequent.

Illamasqua Toxic Nature Cream Pigments!

Hey Ladies,

As you will all know Illamasqua have released a new collection for Spring Summer 2011 and because I was unable to attend the event they very kindly sent me a few products from the collection, two cream pigments & a nail polish. I wanted to talk about the cream pigments first.

As you can see my Mac 109 has been in them!
Swatches
Emerge on my Cheeks!

'Unpredictable, uncharted and unnatural, Illamasqua unleashes Toxic Nature for Spring/Summer 2011, a colour collection born from a visionary concept of nature fighting back against the genetically modified society that plunders it. Illamasqua has created the Toxic Nature collection through a palette of lurid shades, corrupted hues and glistening muted tones that offer intoxicating versions of their original selves.'

First of all I love the images of the collection & how well thought out it is but I find this to be the same of all Illamasqua collections, the stories behind them are always so creative & weird.

These cream pigments are seriously amazing products, as soon as I opened the Emerge shade I was applying it to my cheeks with a Mac 109, it is a fantastic blusher for light-ish skin and what's even better is that if you have oily skin & avoid cream blushers because of the shine they leave on your skin these cream pigments dry matte and are water resistant so perfect for oily skin! The hollow shade is the perfect shade for a contour shade, the name Hollow is spot on! Also on a side note I applied these over powder last night & they were fine and looked fantastic so great for a touch up during the day if you need a bit of blusher over your powder or to transform your makeup to a night look!

You can use them as an eyeshadow or on the lips & body too, I tried them on the lips but the peach shade is a little too light for me but would definitely suit some people & I will be trying them as an eyeshadow/base tomorrow (I had a job interview today so couldn't risk testing them out!)

I couldn't be more impressed with the cream pigments & hoping that Illamasqua increase the shade range as they are really fantastic on the cheeks so would definitely purchase brighter colours! I have a nail polish from the collection to share with you but I have a Shellac manicure on at the moment so can't show it you on the nails just yet as my Shellac is such a dark shade!

I hope you've all had a lovely week & are with me in praying that the people of Japan & other areas affected by today's earthquake will recover quickly & remain strong.
