The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion Review

Wednesday 2 February 2011

Hey Ladies,

I attended The Body Shop event in the Summer (Yes I am that slow at reviewing products) and they were introducing a few new products into the Vitamin C range, one being the Microdermabrasion exfoliator. My ears immediately perked up as I love exfoliators & anything that says microdermabrasion on the tube!

So as soon as I was home (or more accurately on the train home) I whipped this bad boy out & had a feel of the beads, one thing I detest is when a company says its microdermabrasion and it’s large chunky beads that are sparse in the liquid, this certainly isn’t, it feels like sand that’s been mixed with a tiny bit of cream its that densely packed with the exfoliant.

They say:
‘Smooth dry, dull skin away for a refreshed complexion. With Amazonian camu camu berry (known to have one of the highest contents of vitamin C in nature), garnet particles and Community Trade shea butter. For dull skin.’

Personally adding shea butter in something that essentially is removing a layer of skin is a little pointless as most sane people would follow this with an actual moisturiser but I guess every little helps but a useless ingredient will add to the cost but thankfully it isn’t too expensive. It normally retails for £12 for 75mls which will last you a great amount of time, I’ve had mine since the summer & it’s still going strong as you only need a little of it. At the moment The Body Shop have it on offer for £6 which makes it quite frankly a bargain & I am definitely gonna get a couple at this price.

Sadly I’m not the biggest fan of The Body Shops packaging, not the design as it’s fit for purpose & you can’t really ask for more at £12 but the recycled packaging they use really annoys me (no I’m not an anti environmentalist) but basically any packaging I’ve had from them breaks & the microdermabrasion was no exception, after about two weeks the stopper on the cap (if that makes sense) snapped off & jammed into where the product came out so I had to decant it into another bottle. Yes I got the product for free at the event so can’t complain but if I had paid for it I would have marched it right back to the shop & swapped it for another. There’s a point where being environmentally friendly becomes a hindrance & The Body Shop seems to be the only brand with recycled packaging that does this for me.

Aside from the packaging this product is really brilliant, I love using it & how it makes my skin feel as smooth as silk, it is recommended to use once a week but I do use it more frequently as my skin can handle it, if you’ve got sensitive skin I’d avoid this as it will just irritate your skin. I have tried a few microdermabrasion scrubs before & for the price you can’t get better than this by a long way. It has firmly secured itself into my skin care routine & I can't recommend it enough!!

Hope you're all having a lovely week & hopefully I will be able to get some YouTube videos done this weekend since I've had so many new subscribers, so i'm feeling the pressure!!

  3. I have this too and absolutely love it. I've been using it non stop since I got it in the event and only now is it looking half empty.

My packaging held out fine and I'm really rough with it, I need to get another one as a backup ASAP1

  5. What I love about this scrub is that the exfoliating grains are the smoothest I've ever had the pleasure of applying to my skin. They're so fine, they feel like grains of sand - the smoothest sand in the land! I adore the texture of this product. It's so easy to distribute without causing any redness or friction and leaves my skin feeling clean, smooth and refreshed.

It has a citrus-like scent, but when spread over the face intensifies slightly, but not to the point where it becomes too overbearing. I like to use this before applying a face mask as it really prepares my skin properly for the final stage of a pampering session. If your skin is looking dull and lacklustre then this will act as a great pick me up, stimulating new cell renewal and encouraging a healthy glow.

A Fantastic product, which gets a huge thumbs up from me.

  6. I just bought this today and was happy to see so many positive reviews when I searched for them online. I used it before washing my face for bed and my skin feels amazing! Smooth and soft. I'm anxious to see how my skin looks after using this several time!

  8. Bought this after trying other similar products which cost loads more. This works far better than any of them. Just evens out skin tone. Also, Smooth dry, addled skin abroad for a bright, active complexion.
