Mac Semi-Precious Bushes: What The Eff?

Hey Ladies,

Tonight I saw the new brushes Mac are releasing in the Semi-Precious collection & just had to share my thoughts on them.

179 Angled Split Fibre Buffer Brush

128 Split Fibre Cheek Brush

234 Split Fibre Eye Blending Brush

235 Split Fibre All Over Eye Brush

Basically they all have one side natural bristle and one side synthetic, under the presumption that natural brushes are best for powder products and synthetic brushes best for liquid & cream products

First of all I think they look incredibly odd like the frankenstein of brushes and secondly I can't see any of them getting any use on a regular basis except perhaps the 235 which would be good for using my beloved Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows with the synthetic side & then going over with an eyeshadow with the natural bristle side.

When I initially saw the 128 brush it looked lovely & just my kind of brush natural bristle side up that is (& very much like my coveted Shu Uemura foundation brush) I was definitely making a mental purchase until I saw the very familiar traditional foundation brush synthetic side.

So what do you think they will be like? A jack of all trades, master of nothing is my feelings but I am waiting to be proven wrong.

  1. Very strange. I'd prefer they just pick one side. Something tells me just from looking at the slightly scraggly hairs in your first picture that they aren't as well made as we would hope MAC brushes to be (especially given their price!).

  2. i think they look ridiculous... i reckon in trying to achieve an all round multi purpose brush they will end up being rubbish at everything... jack of all trades, master of none, as you said :s

  3. I just can't see these brushes being any good, I'd never consider flipping sides of a brush for different products, these are definitely not for me. Great post x

  4. I can't see me being a fan of them at all. I just don't really see the point to be honest. Hmmm.

  5. Am I the only one that actually thinks these are a pretty good idea? I like them! Don't have to go fiddling around for brushes if you're using cream and powder products.
